1. the finest kind of parchment, usually prepared from the skins of calves, kids, or lambs, once used instead of paper for books. Some very expensive books are still bound in vellum.
2. a manuscript, testimonial, or degree written or printed on vellum.
3. a) any superior quality of parchment: »

vegetable vellum.

b) paper or cloth imitating vellum. A college diploma is usually made of vellum.
